On the up – new letting at Sheffield Business Park
One of the world’s leading lift manufacturers has opened its UK headquarters at Sheffield Business Park.
Orona is the leading manufacturer in its home country of Spain, which is the second largest market in the world. Its new Yorkshire base will oversee the operations of some 400 staff across the UK.
Orona UK has moved onto the park’s Europa Green complex, occupying one floor of a 6,650 sq ft unit which has been newly-let to its subsidiary Independent Lifts Ltd.
Previously based at Holmewood, Chesterfield, Independent Lifts selected Sheffield Business Park because of its strategic location on the country’s motorway network.
“We had run out of space at Holmewoood and the premises were looking a little tired,” says sales director Andrew Emsley. “Good motorway links were a key requirement, along with a prestigious location – and Sheffield Business Park fulfils both.”
The company, which is a major supplier to the region’s construction sector, is no stranger to Yorkshire’s largest business park, which covers over 200 acres alongside the M1.
Says Andrew: “We have put a lift in every building on the business park over the years and carry out all the maintenance work. We have also installed lifts for 95 per cent of the new developments in Sheffield over the last 10 years.”
Independent Lifts was established in 1987 by landowner and commercial developer Sir Nicholas Bacon and current managing director Keith Snow. Acquired by Orona two years ago, it has regional offices in Birmingham and Warrington. Over 30 staff have transferred to Sheffield.
For Sheffield Business Park, Orona is the latest in a number of international companies, such as Fujitsu Siemens, to have established UK headquarters on its site.
“We are delighted to welcome Independent Lifts and Orona UK. Their decision to locate to Sheffield Business Park once again confirms our standing as the regions premier business location,” says park manager Rebecca Byers.
