Business park workers praised for blood boost
National Blood Service staff have praised workers from Sheffield Business Park for an outstanding response to an appeal for donors.
Staff from businesses on the 200-acre park regularly take time out to give blood when the service’s mobile unit calls. But the response at the most recent visit exceeded expectations.
“We were expecting 25 donors, but we actually received 43 – which is a fantastic result,” says donor relations assistant Claire Graves.
The blood service needs to collect around 1300 units – at just under one pint per unit – every week in South Yorkshire. So good attendances at donor sessions are vital.
Business park locations are ideal for the bloodmobile, says Claire: “A lot of people find it more convenient to donate during the day, rather than after work. Sheffield Business Park, which is still growing in size, is a great site for us.”
Six sessions have taken place at the site since visits began a year ago, with 188 donors attending.
Sheffield Business Park manager Rebecca Byers says: “We notify all our occupiers when the bloodmobile is due to visit and it’s great to see so many people offering their support.”
For first-timer donors, the experience takes around one hour – for regulars it is more like 30 to 45 minutes. People can give blood three times a year.
